Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1:   Welcome to Kathmandu, Drive to Nagarkot

You'll enjoy wonderful views of the city, the Himalayas, and the terraced farms below as you fly into Kathmandu. After clearing customs, a representative will greet you and accompany you through the culture shock of Kathmandu's small, twisting streets as you travel (one hour) to Nagarkot, a settlement in the hills northeast of Kathmandu. This is a great way to get away from the chaos of Kathmandu on your first night!
Meal: Dinner

Day 2:    Sunrise from Nagarkot, Drive or Hike to Bhaktapur

Get up early to see the dawn over the Himalayas, which is a stunning sight to behold, followed by a delicious breakfast! After breakfast, you have the option of being driven directly to Bhaktapur from Nagarkot (1 hour) or hiking there (4 hours). The hike goes downward and passes through Changu Narayan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Kathmandu Valley. The famed temple in this small village is the valley's least-visited attraction, making it a unique spot to visit due to the lack of visitors. The temple, which is thought to be Nepal's oldest, was built in the 13th century.
Meal: Breakfast

Day 3:    Explore Bhaktapur & Patan, Overnight in Patan

You'll spend the morning exploring Bhaktapur's temples and courtyards. After that, you'll be driven to Patan, which will take around an hour. If you enjoy shopping for souvenirs, Patan is the greatest spot to go in the Kathmandu Valley. Traditional Newari crafters abound in the area, so you'll find shops offering Buddhist thangka paintings, metal statues, jewelry of all kinds, and brass and copper cookware.
Meal: Breakfast

Day 4:    Fly from Kathmandu to Chitwan

You'll be up early this morning for your trip to Chitwan National Park in Nepal's famous Terai region. The terrain and culture are completely different from Kathmandu and the Himalayas. The word 'Terai' refers to the vast plains in Nepal's south—this territory is the northernmost extension of India's huge Gangetic plains, land that has been won and lost through decades of struggle and bears both Indian and Nepali traits and culture. When you arrive in Chitwan, a representative from your lodge will meet you at the airport and transport you to your lodge in time for lunch (unless you chose an afternoon flight) and a briefing on the activities available in the time you have left.
Meal: Breakfast

Day 5:    Explore Chitwan: Safaris, Wildlife, and Relaxation

Today, you can participate in a range of activities or simply rest and explore on your own. A full day of jungle safari activities, such as spending time with Nepal's majestic elephants in the dense jungle in search of wildlife or taking a river safari in traditional carved-out wooden canoes to view wildlife and birds along the river banks, may make the most of your day. The bigger one-horned rhinoceros, spotted deer, hog deer, sambar deer, and barking deer, as well as a diverse range of birds, can all be found in Chitwan. With luck, you might see a leopard, sloth bear, or Royal Bengal tiger (while spotting a tiger these days is extremely unusual, recent sightings have occurred!).
Meal: Breakfast

Day 6:   Drive from Chitwan to Lumbini

After breakfast in Chitwan, drive to Lumbini for 3-4 hours. Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site near the Indian border in Nepal's Kapilavastu province, where Queen Mayadevi is claimed to have given birth to the Buddha Siddhartha Gautama. Between 563 and 483 BCE, the Buddha lived.
Lumbini is one of four pilgrimage hotspots that came up in key locations in the Buddha's life, the others being Bodhgaya, Sarnath, and Kushinagar. Lumbini has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Lumbini's holy site includes ruins of old monasteries, a sacred Bodhi tree, an ancient bathing pond, the Asokan pillar, and the Mayadevi temple, which houses the exact location of Buddha's birth.
Meal: Breakfast

Day 7:  Explore Lumbini, Fly to Pokhara

You'll have time in the morning to watch the sunrise and visit the temples in the Lumbini area. After that, you'll be taken to Bhairawa airport for your trip to Pokhara. When you arrive in Pokhara, you will be driven to your accommodation in a private car.
Meal: Breakfast

Day 8:    Explore Pokhara: Adventure & Relaxation

You'll have the entire day in Pokhara to relax or participate in a range of activities. You might wish to go shopping, browse the cafés and restaurants, or try something more exciting like paragliding or mountain biking.
Meal: Breakfast

Day 9:    Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu, Depart!

You'll be transferred to Pokhara's domestic airport for your trip back to Kathmandu after breakfast. If you're traveling home from Kathmandu today, make sure your flight leaves no earlier than 11 a.m. to give yourself ample time to catch it. (You'll arrive in Kathmandu at 9:15 a.m. at the earliest.)
