Trip Introduction

Mera Peak (6,461m/21,216ft) is situated at the end of the peaceful and distant Hinku valley and climbing it offers trekkers a chance to reach the summit of Mera Peak which is the highest climbing peak in Nepal. The Mera Peak Climbing - 18 Days is a short type of climbing familiarity and planned for those adventure seekers who have a busy schedule but are still setting out to conquer this imposing trekking peak since there are numerous routes to Mera, some of them are easy and some need to cross challenging and high passes.

You can enjoy mind-boggling views of the mighty Himalayas that include Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and numerous other opposed peaks in this journey to Mera peak. Following the hiring and trekking route, we advance off the beaten trail along Hinku Honku valley. We trek up to Mera Peak base camp, summit the peak and return with an unforgettable experience of witnessing wonderful decoration of the world's 8000 meter Mountain. Mera Peak doesn't need professional peak climbing experience as the snow slopes don't exceed more than 30 degrees. There will be fixed ropes and you are protected by fixed lines. Moreover, Mera Peak climbing is an ideal choice for anybody with moderate mountaineering experience to enjoy the stunning scenery and unique Hinku valley which will make your trip amazing since you will also get the chance to explore different parts of Kathmandu.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (Altitude: 1,300m/4,264 ft.)

On your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, one of our representatives will pick up you and escort you to the hotel as well as help you to check-in at the hotel. 

Day 02: Fly to Lukla & trek to Paiya (Chutok) (Altitude: Lukla: 2,800m/9,186 ft. Flight: 35 min Trek: 5/6 hrs. Meal: BLD)

An early morning transfer to the airport for the scenic flight to Lukla, offering stunning views of the Himalayan range. Upon landing, meet the trekking crew and begin the trek. The trail descends through forested paths and traditional Sherpa villages, crossing suspension bridges and terraced hillsides. Compared to the main Everest route, this trail is quieter and more remote. The day ends at Paiya (Chutok), a small settlement surrounded by lush greenery. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 03: Trek to Panggom | Altitude: 2,846m/9,337ft | Trek: 5/6 hrs. | Meal: BLD

The trek continues with a mix of ascents and descents through rhododendron forests and small villages. You will cross several streams and pass prayer flags and mani walls, reflecting the region’s Buddhist culture. A steady climb leads to Panggom, a picturesque village perched on a ridge. Clear weather offers excellent views of surrounding hills and distant peaks. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 04: Trek to Ningsow - Altitude: 2,863m/9,393ft  | Trek: 4/5 hrs. | Meal: BLD

Today begins with a gradual ascent followed by a descent through dense forests. The trail remains peaceful and less crowded, allowing for a more immersive trekking experience. After crossing several small passes and streams, arrive at Ningsow, a quiet village with basic lodges. The remainder of the day is spent resting and hydrating in preparation for higher altitudes ahead. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 05: Trek to Chhatra Khola - Altitude: 2,800m/9,186ft | Trek: 7/8 hrs. | Meal: BLD

This is a longer trekking day with varied terrain. The route descends through forests before climbing again toward the Hinku Valley. You will cross multiple ridges and streams, gradually transitioning into more alpine surroundings. Chhatra Khola lies along a riverbank and serves as a key stop before entering the upper Hinku Valley. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 06: Trek to Kothe - Altitude: 3,691m/12,109ft. |  Trek: 6/7Hrs | Meal: BLD

The trail follows the Hinku Khola upstream through dense forests of pine and rhododendron. As altitude increases, vegetation becomes sparser and temperatures cooler. Kothe is a small settlement used primarily by trekkers and climbers heading toward Mera Peak. The afternoon is ideal for rest and acclimatization walks. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 07: Trek to Thangnak (Altitude: 4,350m/14,271ft. | Trek: 4/5 hrs. | Meal: BLD)

From Kothe the trail gradually climbs toward Thangnak, offering impressive views of glaciers and surrounding peaks including Kusum Kanguru. The dramatic scenery and thinning vegetation indicate that you are entering higher Himalayan terrain.

Day 08: Ice climbing practice at Thangnak - Altitude: 4,350m/14,271ft. | Meal: BLD

Spend a full acclimatization day at Thangnak. Short hikes around the area help your body adjust to the altitude while allowing you to enjoy the stunning glacial landscapes and mountain vistas.

Day 09: Trek to Khare - Altitude:  5,045m/16,551ft.  | Trek: 4/5 hrs. | Meal: BLD

Trek from Thangnak to Khare, the main base area for climbers attempting Mera Peak. The trail crosses moraine paths and glacial terrain, offering breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks and the massive Mera Glacier.

Day 10: Acclimatization and Pre Climbing Training | Meal: BLD

Stay at Khare for acclimatization and pre-climb training. Your climbing guide will teach important mountaineering skills such as walking with crampons, using an ice axe, and practicing rope techniques needed for the summit climb.

Day 11: Trek from Khare to High Camp - Altitude: 5,780m/18,963ft. | Trek: 6/7 hrs. | Meal: BLD

Trek from Khare to Mera High Camp by crossing the Mera Glacier and ascending gradually to a high ridge. From High Camp you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of some of the world’s highest mountains including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.

Day 12: Summit Mera and Back to Khare- Altitude: 6,476m/21,246ft. | Trek:10/12 hrs. | Meal: BLD

Begin the summit push early in the morning, climbing slowly across the glacier to reach the summit of Mera Peak at 6,476 meters. The summit offers one of the finest panoramic views in the Himalayas before descending safely back to Khare after a long and rewarding day.

Day 13: Contingency Day | Meal: BLD

A reserve or contingency day is kept in the itinerary to ensure flexibility in case of bad weather or if additional time is needed for the summit attempt.

Day 14: Trek back to Kothe Trek: 5/6 hrs. | Meal: BLD

Start the return journey by trekking from Khare back down to Kothe, retracing the beautiful trail through the Hinku Valley while enjoying the changing landscapes during the descent.

Day 15: Trek back to Thuli kharka | Trek: 6/7 hrs. | Meal: BLD

Trek from Kothe to Thuli Kharka, climbing gradually through forests and ridges with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 16: Trek back to Lukla |Trek: 6/7 hrs.  Meal: BLD

Cross the high Zatrwa La Pass before descending toward Lukla. This final trekking day offers magnificent Himalayan views and marks the end of the mountain trail.

Day 17: Fly back to Kathmandu | Meal: B

Fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu, where you can relax, explore the city, and celebrate the successful completion of your Himalayan climbing adventure.

Day 18: Departure from Kathmandu (Altitude: 1350/4428 ft. Meal: B)

Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure, concluding the memorable Mera Peak expedition in the Himalayas.
